About us
In the VDFI (Verband der Deutschen Daunen- und Federnindustrie, the German Down and Feather Association) 29 industrial suppliers of down- and feather-filled bedding and producers of the components necessary for the production of these articles join their forces.
The association is represented by the board of directors, which is elected every other year by the membership meeting.The members of the board are presently:

Our association was founded in 1915; since then its tasks have changed considerably.
In the postwar period the industry’s supply of raw material from abroad had to be ensured. Moreover, we had to arrange for a constant and extensive flow of information between the single companies of the industry.
Later on, we elaborated the labelling specifications for down and feathers together with the involved groups of market participants, for instance the consumer organizations and the trading parties.
Then, concerted promotional and public relations activities were up next. In the course of further work by the association these activities have increased over the years. We produced a film for our distributors and consumers, which gives general information on the topic of down and feathers. Moreover, we have compiled concise information on specific topics, such as feather quilts or house-dust-mite allergy.

At the moment, the VDFI is focussing on the topic of European standardization of down and feathers and the products which are filled with these, in addition to representing the industry’s general interests, maintaining public relations and compiling statistical data.
Together with the members of the EU and EFTA we have developed, among other things, definitions for down and feathers used as filling material which have become common standard in all of Europe, a consumer-friendly labelling specification for fillings and for down- and feather-filled bedding articles.

The VDFI cooperates with the European Down and Feather Association (EDFA) and the international organisation which represents the industry’s interests, the International Down and Feather Bureau (IDFB) to guarantee the coordination of our national activities with those of our partners within Europe and beyond.
